PSALM 119:105-106

105 Your word is a lamp that gives light wherever I walk. 106 Your laws are fair, and I have given my word to respect them all.

PROVERBS 9:10-12

10 Respect and obey the LORD! This is the beginning of wisdom.  To have understanding, you must know the Holy God. 11 I am Wisdom.  If you follow me, you will live a long time.  12 Good sense is good for you, but if you brag, you hurt yourself.

GALATIANS 5:16-26
God's Spirit and Our Own Desires

16 If you are guided by the Spirit, you won't obey your selfish desires.  17 The Spirit and your desires are enemies of each other.  They are always fighting each other and keeping you from doing what you feel you should.  18 But if you obey the Spirit, the Law of Moses has no control over you.

19 People's desires make them give in to immoral ways, filthy thoughts, and shameful deeds.  20 They worship idols, practice witchcraft, hate others, and are hard to get along with.  People become jealous, angry, and selfish.  They not only argue and cause trouble, but they are 21 envious.  They get drunk, carry on at wild parties, and do other evil things as well.  I told you before, and I am telling you again: No one who does these things will share in the blessings of God's kingdom.

22 God's Spirit makes us loving, happy, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, 23 gentle, and self-controlled.  There is no law against behaving in any of these ways.  24 And because we belong to Christ Jesus, we have killed our selfish feelings and desires.  25 God's Spirit has given us life, and so we should follow the Spirit.  26 But don't be conceited or make others jealous by claiming to be better than they are.

PHILIPPIANS 4:4-9

4 Always be glad because of the Lord! I will say it again: Be glad.  5 Always be gentle with others.  The Lord will soon be here.  6 Don't worry about anything, but pray about everything.  With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God.  7 Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand.  And this peace will control the way you think and feel.

8 Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper.  Don't ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.  9 You know the teachings I gave you, and you know what you heard me say and saw me do.  So follow my example.  And God, who gives peace, will be with you.
