All Christians have a calling. Some of us are called to share and teach the word of God, and the salvation of Jesus Christ. Some of us are called to save those of the world, and some of us are called to heal the sick. While all those are very special callings, the majority of us have the hardest calling of all; that is to show the world, through our thoughts, words, and actions that Jesus lives and he is loving and good.
We as Christians need to be aware that the world judges all Christianity by how each of us walks, talks, and acts. So we need to show the world that Christians are good, kind, loving, hard working, and compassionate people that truly live by the
Love of God and Golden Rule.
What image do you leave the world when you fail to smile and say hello when you walk past someone? What image do you leave when you walk pass a beggar and give them nothing? If you have nothing to give, then at least acknowledge them, bless them, and show them kindness and compassion. What image do you leave when you fail to open or hold open a door for someone? What image do you leave when you fail to assist someone in need – helping to lift something heavy, or stopping or at least calling for assistance when a car is broken down? What image do you leave when you cut someone off, or get mad and yell at someone that cuts you off? What image do you leave when you fail to do the very best job you can at work or at school? Remember, we as Christians do not work for our bosses, but for the Lord our God, and our work is a direct reflection our love of the Lord.
It is not easy being a Christian. There is a lot of responsibility representing to the world what Christianity represents. It is not always easy to be nice and caring, especially when someone is being rude, but that is when it is actually the most important. For let me ask you, what would cause you to change your attitude, someone yelling at you and being rude; or if someone showed kindness and compassion to you even when you were being rude? Would not their kindness stop you, make you think, and change your ways – of course it would.
Remember, Jesus said, “If someone strike your cheek, turn to them your other cheek and offer them the opportunity to strike it.” That is tough, when you are compelled to strike back, and you can by using the word of God. For being a Christian does not mean you must be
weak, or cowardly. Oh on the contrary… If you see someone breaking the law, you need to call them on it in a loud and clear voice, “Hey, why are you shoplifting?” or “Are you about to drive after drinking.” In both cases, you also need to be willing to aid them, and of course, in a softer voice, “If you are hungry, I will buy you food,” or “If you need clothing, I will buy it for you,” or “If you need to get somewhere,
I can call you a cab?”
As Christians, we must to maintain a well balance image of ourselves. You are to stand tall, sit proudly, speak confidently, but never arrogant. You are never to look down on someone as you are superior. If you chose to tell the world you are Christian, then you need to be aware that you will be judged by the world critically by your words and actions. The world will be looking for every opportunity to say, “See, Christians are hypocrites, they say one thing and act the other.” On the other hand, if you truly behave honorably, you
will draw in and save a great number of people who will want to be like you.
People who want to know the inter peace and love that the Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit brings to you. |
