The Book of MATTHEW

Chapter 3

John the Baptist Prepares the Way 3:1-12
1 And in those days John the Baptist came along heralding in the wilderness of Judea, 2 saying you need to be repenting for the Kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.

3 For this is the one being declared through the prophet Isaiah saying, "Voice of the one imploring in the wilderness, you make ready the way of the Lord, making the highways straight for him."

4 And he, John had his apparel from hairs of camel, and leather girdle about his loin; and his nourishment was locusts and wild honey.

5 Then went out to him Jerusalem and the entire Judea, and the entire country side of Jordan, 6 and they were baptized in the river Jordan by him, confessing their sins.

7 And seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming on his baptism, he said to them, "Progeny of vipers who intimates (hint quietly) to you to flee from the impending indignation. 8 Produce ye then fruit worthy of repentance, 9 and you should not be presuming to be saying among yourselves, we have father Abraham, for I am saying to you that God is able to, out of these stones, rise up children to Abraham. 10 And already the axe toward the root of the trees is lying; then every tree not producing ideal fruit is being hewn (cut) down and into fire it is cast. 11 I indeed am baptizing you in water into repentance, but the one coming after me is stronger than me, of whom I am not competent to bear (his) sandals, he shall be baptizing you in the Holy spirit and fire.
12 Of whom the winnowing shovel (is) in his hand, and he shall be scouring his threshing floor, and shall be gathering his grain into the barn, and the chaff he shall be burning up with unextinguished fire."

The Baptism of Jesus 3:13-17
13 Then along came Jesus from Galilee on the Jordan towards John to be baptized by him. 14 and John prohibited him saying, I need to be baptized by you, and you are coming to me? 15 And answering Jesus said, "To him, let you at present, thus for it is behooving to us to fulfill all righteousness, then he is letting him (then me letting you)."

16 And being baptized Jesus straightway stepped up from the water and saw the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the spirit of God descending, as if a dove, and coming on him. 17 and heard a voice out of the heavens saying, "This is the son of me, the beloved in whom I delight."
